Math Learning Goals: Comparing Fractions

3.3F(R)- represent equivalent fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 using a variety of objects and pictorial models, including number lines.

3.3G(S)- explain that two fractions are equivalent if and only if they are both represented by the same point on the number line or represent the same portion of the same size whole for an area model.

3.3H(R)- compare two fractions having the same numerator or denominator in problems by reasoning about their sizes and justifying the conclusion using symbols, words, objects, and pictorial models.

Math Homework:

  • Math homework is sent home on Fridays and is due back the following Thursday.  Homework will be due on Thursday, February 18th.
  • Please study your MULTIPLICATION FACTS. We will have a Mad 2 Minutes on Thursday. Students will have two minutes to solve 30 multiplication facts. This is not for a grade this week.  However, in the future this will be for a grade in the grade book.  Please be studying!   We will set goals each week to improve fact fluency.

Benchmark Testing Information

It’s time for February Benchmarks! We can’t wait to see how much progress these amazing kiddos have made since August! 

Our Benchmark exams will be:

Monday, Feb. 8th MATH 

Tuesday, Feb. 9th READING 

Wednesday:  4th and 5th grades only will be testing.  NOT 3rd Grade 

On these days, students may bring a DRY snack (cereal, crackers, pretzels, etc. ) and a bottle of water. Students are also allowed to have 2-3 pieces of peppermint candy OR 2-3 pieces of gum. These items are put away once the test is over. Thank you so much!

Math Learning Goals:  Fractions

3.3C- explain that the unit fraction 1/b represents the quantity formed by one part of a whole that has been partitioned into b equal parts where b is a non-zero whole number

3.3D- compose and decompose a fraction a/b with a numerator greater than zero and less than or equal to b as a sum of parts 1/b

3.3E- solve problems involving partitioning an object or set of objects among two or more recipients using pictorial representations of fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.
